so...andrew, michele, danika, sandy and i went to the sinterklaas parade at dam square yesterday-
it was so much fun to see all the parents bring their kids, and the children all dressed up as zwarte pieten (the slaves of santa). very politically incorrect because sinterklaas is a white man and his workers are black.
the recent argument is that these are actually white people with their faces coloured black because of the soot from the chimneys. yeah right, who are they trying to kid?
still fun though- maybe people should take it easy, be less on the defence and then maybe things would not always end up as some sort of a conflict.
by the way, sinterklaas is celebrated on december 5th as compared to christmas on the 25th.
